22 smart bike stations with 150 bike capacity across one of the largest and fastest-growing smart business centers in the Baltics — home to 500 companies, 20 research institutions, and over 16,000 people from 73 nations.
Ülemiste City is one of the biggest and fastest-growing smart business centers in the Baltics. Extending over 36 hectares and located next to Tallinn Airport, the campus hosts 500 companies, 20 research institutions, and over 16,000 people from 73 nations. The campus needed to reduce car dependency and parking demand, combat persistent bike theft from traditional racks, and take tangible steps toward its goal of becoming car-free and carbon-neutral by 2030.
After considering several options, Ülemiste chose to promote bicycle commuting as the most effective approach. They implemented a network of 22 Bikeep smart stations strategically placed throughout the 36-hectare campus, accommodating up to 150 bikes — free of charge. Each station features loudspeaker alarms, secure steel-bar locking for frame and front wheel, internet connectivity with automatic distress signals, e-bike charging capability, and real-time management through the Bikeep Console.
- Zero bike thefts to date across all Bikeep stations
- 3x more people cycle to work compared to the regional average
- 50% reduction in car parking spots needed
- Platinum LEED certification granted partly thanks to campus-wide secure bike parking
- Ülemiste City brand now widely recognized as green and sustainable
- Every new building in the campus will have Bikeep stations projected in
- People move around with bikes and scooters and do not feel the need to use cars
