Campus-wide smart bike parking and EV charging at UNSW Sydney — ranked #19 globally — supporting the university's net zero commitment and 90% sustainable transport target.
UNSW Sydney — ranked #19 globally in the 2024 QS World Rankings and #2 in Australia for sustainability — needed secure bike parking infrastructure to support their Environmental Sustainability Plan. With 18% of campus crimes being bike theft and 35,000 annual bike theft crimes in the surrounding area, traditional racks weren't solving the problem. The university had set ambitious targets: 85% sustainable transport mode share targeting 90% by 2025, net zero emissions aligned with the 1.5°C Paris Agreement, and resource efficiency goals linked to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Bikeep provided a connected, secure bike parking network across the UNSW campus. The system includes smart parking stations with IoT-enabled locks, EV charging integration for e-bikes, campus-wide accessibility for all students and staff via the Bikeep app, and a real-time management console dashboard for campus facilities. The infrastructure is designed to scale — new stations are added as occupancy thresholds are met.
